New Studio
I have been periodically working on my big project pieces for the last 3 months as I have been handling my move into my first house! The collage critters suit and ribbon jacket, had to be put on hold entirely which has given me more time to shape my final Senior year project. I have at least 5 costumes designed in my head and only 1-2 pieces of those actually in the works. Such a chaotic time calls for art to be put on hold as I have to deal with “real" life problems, like ants in my room and the dryer not working (awful to find out after washing the only pair of unpacked sheets).
Collage from the Apartment studio
However, the best part of this insane move from apartment to house has to be my new studio! I get to use the original art studio from the owners before my landlord owned it. The previous owners had installed really fancy gallery lights across the beams which instantly caught my eye because the previous renters had used the studio as a storage space. I knew that I had to turn this garage back into the creative space it deserved.
In my previous apartment, I had 2 roommates and slept in the large walk in closet in order to use my whole room as a studio space. Pictured below, it was obviosly a cramped spot that I needed to use for work as well as pleasure. I had friends constantly coming in and out of the studio which impacted my space and organization as I ended up throwing all the pieces onto my desk or mini fridge to make room. The stress of having sharp pieces on the floor that only I know the location of was sooo silly looking back because that is such an artist problem.
Magdalen at Night, bedroom seen through the bead curtain
The old studio was affectionately named Magdalen. The name brings to my mind: purple, turquoise, blues, and yellows which are all the most creative and fun colors to add to a piece I think, they all work as pops of bright color while maintaining a cooler tone. At the moment the new studio is unnamed but once she is all made up I believe it will be so beautiful. I will update with the finalized studio set up and new name!
